In this checklist, we'll cover the complete process of creating and managing CPD in Learn LMS.

CPD, or Continuing Professional Development, includes various learning activities aimed at improving career-related skills, such as courses, seminars, webinars, workshops, reading industry articles, and attending events.

Learn LMS allows capturing CPD activities, including those within the platform and details from external events or activities.

Steps to build your CPD programme

The first step is to build your CPD programme and CPD period. 

  1. Organise professional bodies in CPD programmes
  2. Create a CPD programme
  3. Create a CPD Period
  4. Assign Lessons to a CPD period
  5. Configure the CPD values for a Lesson
  6. Assign users to a CPD period

Configure notifications and the learner dashboard view

It's important to make sure your learners keep track of their progress, and there are two ways to do that, described below:

  1. Set up CPD notifications
  2. Set up the CPD summary view for learners

There are two notifications sent to learners relating to CPD, sent to a learner and their manager to advise that the required CPD points/values are not yet acheived.

CPD notifications must be switched on, in order that they are sent. CPD notifications can also be edited to suit the tone of your usual notifications.

Steps to share CPD learning with your people

So your CPD programme is ready. Now make sure the CPD Users can see the required CPD programme so that they get to CPD learning resources and work towards achieving their CPD target.

For the below steps, we'll assume that everything needs to be created from scratch:

To assign as mandatory learning:

  1. Create a CPD Group - if the Group name is the same as the CPD programme name this can help identify they belong together more easily
  2. Add a User(s) to the Group 
  3. Assign the Course to the Group

Users can also be added automatically to CPD programmes linked to overnight data processing actions and where certain conditions have been set up in advance. 

To assign as optional learning:

  1. Create a Catalogue - If the Catalogue name is the same as the CPD programme name this can help identify they belong together more easily
  2. Assign the Course to the Catalogue
  3. Create a Group
  4. Add a User(s) to the Group 
  5. Assign the Catalogue to the Group

It is possible to automate which Users link to a CPD period from data feed automated actions. This requires some initial set-up by an administrator.
