Section content adds Text, Text questions, and Number scale questions to Step sections (Section content cannot be added to other section types). If you're not familiar with step sections, take a look at the Section (steps) section type before continuing with this article.
There are three types of Section content:
- Text block
- Text question
- Number scale questions
Note: Content is always added to the last Step section in a template. It is recommended therefore that each step Section is built at the end of the template and moved into the required position once complete.
Click one of the three choices in the menu to add Section content to a Step Section:
The following options are available for Section content:
![]() |
Edit the Section content. For example, to add question text. |
![]() |
Delete the Section content. |
|
Move the Section content up or down in the template. |
See the following sections for a description of each type of Section content.
‘Text block’ Section content
‘Text block’ Section content is used to add passages of text to a template. No response is required, although both reviewees and reviewers can post comments and attach files to the section in which the Text block is contained.
Click ‘Edit’ to view and edit properties of the Text block:
Settings for a Text block Section content:
Supply text |
Add and format text, including to add hyperlinks (for example to intranet resources or to signpost content in Learn). |
In a review, Text block content looks like this. The option to comment and post evidence appears as part of the section in which the Text block is contained:
‘Text question’ Section content
Used to add questions that require a free text response. Click ‘Edit’ to view and edit the properties of a Text question:
Settings for a Text question Section content:
Add question text |
Add the question, and explanatory text. |
A Text question looks like this when viewed as part of a review (see below). This example depicts a Step Section containing two Text questions. Note that comments and evidence are attached to the Section in which the Text questions are contained:
‘Number scale questions’ Section content
Used to add questions that require a response to be given on a rating scale, for example to rate an individual’s performance against company values.
Click ‘Edit’ to view and edit the properties of a Text question:
Settings for a ‘Number scale question’ Section Content:
Add question text |
Add the question, and explanatory text. |
Only the reviewer can respond… |
Reviewees are not able to answer this question. This may be useful if a manager wished to give a final ‘overall’ score for the reviewee. |
The rating scale used for each Number scale question is applied to the section, and therefore all Number scale questions within a section will use the same rating scale.
To specify the rating scale for all Number scale questions in a section, click ‘Edit section’ (below):
The default scale can be used or a custom scale can be created.
A Number scale question looks like this when viewed as part of a review:
This screenshot depicts three Number Scale questions contained in a Step Section. Note that the option to attach comments and evidence is part of the Section in which the Number scale questions are contained.
