In this article, we'll explain how to build out a review template using Sections.
Sections are the basic building blocks of any review template. Most Sections will pre-populate with details such as an overview of objectives, learning progress, or Development activities. Step sections, however, can be customised to include text, questions and ratings.
A few things to know about Sections:
- Review templates can include any number of Sections
- Sign off Sections are added automatically but can be deleted if required
- All new Sections are added at the end of a review template
We'll cover:
How to add a Section to a review template
- Select Template builder from the Perform Administration menu:
- Create a new review template from scratch or Edit an existing review template
- Select a Section from the template toolbox. Each new Section will appear at the end of the Review template, just above the Sign off step:
Once added, each section can be edited, deleted or moved to a new position in the review template:
Overview of Section types
Let's take a closer look at each Section type. Expand the menus to see key details about each type, and how it looks to reviewees and reviewers when included in a review.
The Section (steps) section
The ‘Steps’ section type is the main building block for a template. Multiple steps sections can be added to a Review template. Steps sections are empty until Section content is added, of which there are three types:
- Text blocks
- Text question
- Number scale question
Overview of ongoing objectives
Once the section is added, there's nothing more to do - it will automatically populate with details of objective progress when the review is opened. A few things to know:
- The Section title can be edited
- All comments related to objectives will be visible, and updated in real time
- Choose to require reviewer and reviewee to rate progress toward achieving objectives
An Overview of ongoing objectives will look like this in a review:
Overview of ongoing development
Once the section is added, there's nothing more to do - it will automatically populate with details of progress with Development Activities when the review is opened. A few things to know:
- The Section title can be edited
- All comments related to Development activities will be visible and updated in real time
An overview of ongoing development will look like this in a review:
Overview of Learn progress
- The Section title can be edited if required
- The section will list 'Courses I have to do, 'Courses I've chosen to do, and 'Add my learning'
An overview of Learn progress will look like this in a review:
Review sign off
Every review template is pre-populated with a sign off section. Sign-off steps can be deleted, however that means it won't be possible to report review completions. A few things to know:
- A sign-off Section cannot be moved from the end of the form
- A review is not signed off, until both reviewer and reviewee have signed off
A Sign of Section looks like this in a review:
