In this article, we'll take a closer look at Step Sections. Unlike 'Overview' sections, which insert a summary of activity in key areas, Steps sections are empty until populated with any one of three types of Section content.
Note that there are several different types of Section that can be used to build a review template, however Section Content can be added only to a Step Section.
We'll cover:
- Section content: what each type looks like, and what it's for
- How to add Section content to a Step Section
- How to edit and reorder Section content
Section content: what each type looks like, and what it's for
There are 3 main types of section content, described below:
The below screenshot shows a Step Section in a review, containing each of the three types of Section Content:
Text block
‘Text block’ Section content is used to add passages of text to a template. In this example, a Text block is used to explain the purpose of the Section, with a link to further details if required. Note that:
- Text blocks can include hyperlinks
- Text blocks can include emojis
Number scale questions
'Number scale' Section content is used to add questions that require a response on a rating scale. Note that:
- The rating scale used for each Number scale question is applied to the Section
- All Number scale questions within a section will use the same rating scale
- The default scale can be used or a custom scale can be created
Note that the other person's ratings will only be visible when answers are shared.
When selecting a Number scale question, the 'Categorise this data as' drop down menu will be available:
If the Number scale question relates to Potential, Performance, or Behaviour (as per the above screenshot), make the relevant selection from the menu. If your question relates to anything else, then select 'None'.
The Performance, Potential, and Behaviours report is designed to provide deeper insights into Number scale questions categorised under any of these three types.
Text question
'Text question' Section content is used to add questions that require a free text response. In the above example, the text question is used to add context to the rating given in the previous Number scale question.
Note that:
- Further comments and evidence can be added to the Step Section
- There is space for both reviewer and reviewee to respond
Note that the other persons answers will only be visible when answers are shared.
Add Section content to a Step Section
- Select Template builder from the Perform Administration menu:
- Create a new review template from scratch or Edit an existing review template
- Add a Step Section from the template toolbox. The new Step Section will appear at the end of the Review template, just above the Sign off step
- Scroll to see the Section content area. Select one of the three types of Section Content:
Note that:
-
-
- each type of Section Content can be added as many times as you need
- Section Content is always added to the last Step section in a template
-
We recommend that each Step Section is built at the end of the template and moved into the required position once complete.
Edit and reorder Section content
Once added to a Step Section, Select 'Edit', 'Delete,' and 'Move' to adjust as you need:
Note that Section Content can be moved to another Step Section.
