Global settings
Select 'Settings' from the Perform Administration menu to view user configurable options for Perform, including:
- AI Smart objectives
- AI Actions in reviews
- AI Assistant in Development Activities
- Enable Group Administrators
- Enable Skills in Perform
To access these settings, you must be a Perform administrator. View How to add and remove administrator permission (with the latest IDS).
AI Smart objectives
This feature, once enabled, supports users in crafting SMART objectives by offering real-time guidance and suggestions. It helps ensure that every objective meets the SMART criteria, making goal-setting more purposeful and impactful. SMART objectives are goals that are:
- Specific – clearly defined and focused
- Measurable – trackable with clear indicators of success
- Achievable – realistic and attainable
- Relevant – aligned with broader goals or priorities
- Time-bound – set within a defined timeframe
Using SMART criteria helps ensure that objectives are clear, achievable, relevant, measurable, and effective. They provide structure and clarity, making it easier to stay focused, measure progress, and achieve meaningful outcomes.
View Use AI SMART objectives to help your people write better SMART Objectives for more information.
AI Actions in reviews
Reviews often conclude without clear next steps, resulting in limited follow-through. This section of the form ensures that both the reviewer and the reviewee identify specific actions to take forward.
This section is designed to close that gap. Using AI, Perform generates a list of action suggestions for both reviewer and reviewee, helping to spark ideas and guide the conversation toward meaningful outcomes.

AI Assistant in Development Activities
When enabled, this feature supports users and their managers in creating meaningful and effective development activities.
The AI assistant takes an existing development activity and suggests five practical steps to help complete it.
This is especially useful for anyone who may be unsure where to start, needs inspiration to move forward, or wants to refine and strengthen their existing ideas.
View How to Create a Development activity (personal goal) for yourself to see the Ai assistant in action.
Enable Group Administrators
With this option enabled, users assigned as Group Administrators can view and manage members of their designated Groups in Perform and view Perform reports for those members.
Carefully managing who is assigned this access is essential. Before switching it on, read up on this feature: View Allow Group Administrators to view Group members in Perform for more information.
Enable Skills in Perform
Once you have set up your Skills taxonomy and any Skill profiles required, you can switch on Skills in Perform. This means you can get 'ready' before making Skills functionality available in your Performance Management process. For more information on Skills, see FAQ: Skills.
