New skill permission for Admins
We made a conscious product decision to release the Skills Beta without specific permissions to create and manage skills, in order to deliver the functionality at speed and scale. Based on Beta feedback, and with the introduction of skill levels and new skill features in Perform, we’ve decided that now is the right time to introduce more granular controls.
From 14th July, a new permission toggle will take effect. This is already live, so you can configure the relevant users in advance.
Please note: any customers still using IDs3 will not receive this permission, and no changes will occur until you transition to the updated identity provider.

Skill levels: Configure, set targets and progress through levels
Understanding skill gaps is crucial for guiding effective development and improving performance. By introducing the ability to configure skill levels and set targets, you can provide clearer direction on what individuals need to work on. This helps employees focus their development efforts, aligns growth with business needs, and ultimately drives stronger individual and team performance.
There’s a lot included in this new functionality, such as:
- Configuring the name and number of skill levels
- Setting target levels for skills, including within skill profiles or for directly assigned skills
- The learner skills dashboard that displays current and target skill levels
- A skills evidence feed within the learner dashboard
- Self-assessment of skills with manager approval
- Automatically boosting skill levels upon completion of lessons or competency checks

Refresher training Beta update
This release includes updates to enable Refresher training through the introduction of Lesson sets within courses and the ability to create rules for each Lesson set. This update aims to simplify the creation and management of refresher training.
Refresher training will need to be enabled per customer during an initial Beta. The Beta will involve an initial cohort of customers and will commence during the week commencing July 7th.
If you are interested in joining the Beta, please contact your Customer Experience Manager.
Refresher training includes the following functionality:
- Create a Lesson set with multiple lessons that can repeat
- Create up to 5 Lesson sets per course
- Set when a set repeats or goes to the next set
- Repeat sets indefinitely or a custom number of times
- After a set has repeated a specified number of times, go to a different set
- Set prerequisites within each lesson set
- Add elective lessons within a set
- Set how many days in advance a learner can access a lesson set
Example Use case:
Set up a training cycle that enables the full course to be completed every three years, and schedule a shorter refresher course annually for the subsequent two years.
Overnight email notifications change
There is an update which will take effect within the next few weeks as part of an iterative rollout. Email notifications, which were previously sent overnight, will now be sent during business hours between 9 am and 5 pm UK time.
This change will help with the “Right To Switch Off” legislation, which is expected to come into effect in 2026. Changing the time we send out our email notifications protects an employee’s personal time and can contribute to an improved work-life balance.
