In this article, we'll explain how to set up the offline mobile app so that your people can download eLearning content and view it offline, allowing them to complete it in places with poor connectivity. When learners reconnect, their progress or results will be updated within Learn.
When added to a device, learners will see this:
Note that: the logo cannot be changed. Perform is also available within the app when viewed online.
We'll cover:
- How to switch on the app for your organisation
- How learners install the app (IOS devices)
- How learners install the app (Android devices)
- How learners download Lessons to complete offline
- How to prevent content from being downloaded
How to switch on the app for your organisation
The App will work on the latest version of iOS and Android (mobile only, not tablet). Follow the steps below to switch on the app for your organisation.
- Browse to the Settings area of Learn admin:
- Select Offline app from the Settings Administration menu:
- Switch the toggle to Yes. Learners will be invited to install the app the next time they log in to Learn on either an iOS or Android device:
If learners dismiss this message, the app can be installed at a later time.
How learners install the app (IOS devices)
Learners will be invited to install the app the next time they log in to Learn on either an iOS or Android device.
- Select Install the App
- Select Share
- Select Add to Home screen
- Select Add
How to install the app at a later time
If your learners choose not to install the app when first prompted, follow the steps below at any time.
- Select Menu
- Select your name
- Select Add to Home screen
- Follow the steps to install the app
Note: If your organisation has Perform and a user with Perform access downloads this app, then they will be able to see Perform within the app when the application is online. This gives them wider access to their objectives, development activities, and reviews.
How learners install the app (Android devices)
On Android devices, the steps may vary depending on your device and the browser you’re using. This is because you’re adding a shortcut to your home screen - not downloading an app. You won’t find Kallidus in the Google Play Store or the App Store.
In Chrome, for example, select the option Add to homescreen from the browser options menu:
To find the steps for your device and browser, use your preferred web browser and search 'How to add a webpage to your homepage'.
How learners download Lessons to complete offline
Once installed, your learners can download e-learning lessons to complete when offline. Follow the steps below to see how.
- Browse to a Course
- Select More
- Select Download
- View the Lesson. (Once courses have been downloaded, they are available for use when offline – they sit within the Your downloaded lessons section of the app.)
Note that:
- Lessons will disappear from the list in the app after 30 days
- Lessons can be redownloaded to the device again and the learner can then continue with their learning
How to prevent content from being downloaded
By default, all eLearning Lessons can be downloaded and completed offline. However, it is possible to prevent specific Lessons from being downloaded if required.
This may be necessary if, for example, the content you have created is not optimised for mobile devices.
- Browse to an eLearning Lesson
- Select eLearning set-up
- Unselect the check box "allow this learning content...."
