Learn - Create and assign a Pathway as mandatory or optional learning

A Pathway is a collection of milestones, ordered in your preferred sequence, that guides learners through a structured program of Courses. In this article, we'll show how to assign Milestones to a Pathway and share the Pathway as mandatory or optional learning. 

A Pathway is a sequence of Milestones arranged in your preferred order, with no limit to the number of Milestones you can include. This flexibility lets you design a learning journey that aligns with your organisation’s goals and skill framework.

We'll cover how to add Milestones to a Pathway and:

• Assign to your people as mandatory learning
• Assign to your people as optional learning

Create and assign a pathway as mandatory learning

Watch the video or follow the steps below to create a Pathway, add Milestones, and assign as mandatory learning:

1. Select Pathway from the Courses menu:

2. Select New Pathway:

3. Enter a unique code for the Pathway. This will not be visible to learners

4. Enter a title for your Pathway

5. Add a description to provide context about your Pathway

6. Add an image to visually represent your pathway

7. Enter a descriptive summary for the pathway

8. Set whether the pathway is enabled or not. You may prefer to enable the pathway only when all the milestones are assigned

9. Select Submit to create the Pathway:

10. Select Pathway Milestones from the Pathways administration menu:

11. Select the milestones to add to the Pathway

12. Select Submit to save the assignment. Select 'reorder' to change the sequence of the milestones in the Pathway:

13. Select Groups from the Pathway administration menu to make the Pathway mandatory for a Group of Users

14. Select Edit and choose the Groups you want to assign the pathway to

15. Select Submit to save the assignment

ℹ️ Info: If a User has already completed a milestone - or begun one - in another pathway, their progress will carry over and be reflected across all pathways. Completed milestones will not need to be repeated, and any milestones already in progress can be continued from either pathway.

Assign a pathway as optional learning

Follow steps 1-12 above to create a Pathway. Then, to assign a Pathway as optional learning:

1. Select Catalogue from the Pathway Administration menu:
2. Select Edit:
3. Select the Catalogue(s) to which the Catalogue should be assigned:
4. Select Submit to save the assignment. The Pathway will appear in a Catalogue alongside any assigned Courses. Pathways are identified by the Pathways icon.
