Learn - Create a Pathway Milestone

Milestones are the core building blocks of Pathways. They group together Courses that learners must complete before progressing to the next stage of a learning journey.

In this article, you'll learn how to create a Milestone and add Courses to it, ready for use within one or more Pathways.

Key things to know

  • Milestones are reusable – the same milestone can be used in multiple pathways.
  • Courses are added to milestones, not individual lessons.
  • Learners must complete all courses in a milestone before the next milestone becomes available.

Each milestone represents a stage in the pathway. When learners complete all courses within a milestone, the next milestone is unlocked, guiding them through the learning journey in the correct sequence.

ℹ️ Info: Up to 20 courses can be included in a Milestone. If you need to add more, we recommend splitting them across multiple Milestones - this also creates a clearer, more manageable experience for learners.

Steps to create a Pathway milestone

Watch the video or follow the steps below to create a milestone and add Courses:

  1. Select Pathway milestone from the Courses menu:

  2. Select New Milestone:

  3. Enter a unique code for your milestone. This will not be visible to learners

  4. Enter a title for your milestone. This will be visible to learners

  5. Add a description to provide context about your milestone

  6. Specify the order in which the assigned Courses must be completed. Select from 'Any order' or 'Linear order'. This can be changed at any time:

  7. Select Submit to create the milestone

  8. Select Courses from the milestone administration menu to choose Courses to assign to the milestone

  9. Select Edit to add/manage course assignments for the milestone

  10. Select one or more Courses to add to the milestone

  11. Select Submit to save the assignment(s)

  12. To assign to a milestone, select Pathways from the milestone administration menu
