In this article, we'll walk you through the steps to configure expiration reminders for Accreditations in Learn LMS. Expiry reminders are essential for keeping completion rates high. Note that:
- It is possible to configure unique expiry schedules for Users and Managers
- Expiry reminders will be sent for a maximum of 30 days after Accreditation expiry
- Expiry reminders are often timed to coincide with the Course moving back to 'Courses to do' (see step 2)

Steps to configure Accreditation expiry reminders
- Browse to the Accreditation area in Learn admin:
- Select an Accreditation from the list. Note the 'Tell learners' value on the details page. This determines when the Course (with the Accredited Lesson) will move from 'Courses I've done', back to 'Courses I have to do'. Typically, expiry reminders are timed to coincide with this.
- Choose Expiry Reminders from the administration menu:
- Set an expiry notification schedule for Users as required. Note that the default notification schedule is to send an expiry reminder 7 days before the expiry date
- Set an expiry notification schedule for Managers as required. Note that the default notification schedule is to send an expiry reminder 7 days before the expiry date. Managers have their team dashboard view in Learn, so they may need only one initial reminder instead of receiving multiple notifications when several reports are due to repeat at the same time
- Select Submit to save changes on the 'Expiry Reminders' page
Configuration options for expiry reminders
There are two configuration options for reminders which also impact if the Accreditation is displayed on the Accreditations list:
Alert all Users in the User list about the accreditation expiry
Expiry reminders will be sent to every User who has previously completed the Accreditation - even if they are no longer a member of a Group to which the accreditation is assigned. It means that if you have been assigned the Accreditation, then you will forever be reminded to repeat it (even if you did not start, or complete the Accreditation).
If this is selected, every Accreditation a User has ever achieved, however they were assigned it (mandatory or self selected) will appear on the User's Accreditations list view in their dashboard (if the Accreditation dashboard is enabled for the Accreditation).
This option is most often used where Accreditations are assigned directly to individual Users (instead of via Groups) or when Users can self-select the Accreditation. It allows learners to maintain an Accreditation (and therefore associated skills) should they wish to - even if no longer required to by the organisation for their current role.
Alert only Users assigned to this accreditation as part of a Group about their accreditation expiry
This is the default option.
Expiry reminders will be sent only to Users who are still assigned the Accreditation through membership of a Group (to which the Accred is assigned). If this is selected, the Users will only see group-assigned Accreditations in their dashboard. They will not see Accreditations that are individually assigned, were self-selected (optional), or which they completed as part of a Group they are no longer assigned to.
This option means that, for example, if you were once a fire warden and were assigned an Accreditation as a member of the fire warden Group, then once you leave that Group (stop being a fire warden) you will no longer receive reminders to complete it and it will no longer appear in the Accreditation dashboard.
