Perform - Set yourself an objective

In this article, we’ll show you how to set objectives that align with wider organisational goals. We'll cover:

• Key things to know about objectives
• Steps to create an objective and link to a global objective
• Create a Development activity from the objective

Key things to know about objectives:

• Objectives can be made private (hidden from your manager)

• Objectives can be summarised in a review form

• Review forms may include objectives with or without a rating option

• Hidden objectives don’t appear in review forms when a summary is included

• Managers and team members can comment, attach evidence, and adjust progress

• Notifications can be sent whenever an objective is updated

Note that each time a change is made to an objective, the other person can be sent a notification to let them know.

Steps to create an objective for yourself

1. In Perform, browse to My objectives:
2. Select New objective
3. Add a title and a description:
4. Use Select a date to specify a due date for the objective (this can be changed later if required)
5. Choose to make the objective private - hidden from the manager (this can be changed later if required):
   
6. Select Connect+ to link an objective to a global objective (if this step is not required, skip to step 8):
7. Scroll through the Global objectives. Select Connect when you find the right one. Note that an objective can be linked to one global objective only 
8. Select Save

The objective is now created. Return at any time to add comments and evidence towards achieving the objective.

Steps to create a Development Activity from this objective

Creating a Development activity - and subsequently linking it to the objective - helps the business understand who is working towards self-development to achieve their objectives. 

To establish this connection select the objective title to reopen it: 

Select Create a development activity. You'll jump straight to the My Development area, where you can create a new Development activity, specify the purpose for the activity, and link it to the objective:
