In this article, we'll explain how to configure reminder notifications for Courses with Lesson sets, typically used to deliver refresher training to your learners.
Reminder notifications are based on the Course Deadline settings.
Select Deadline from the Course Administration menu to specify a Course deadline and the schedule for reminder notifications (for Users, their Managers, and Course tutors). Note that:
- The schedule for reminder notifications applies to all Lesson sets in a Course
- Note that Users may also be notified when they are enrolled in a Course

Reminder notification for courses with only one Lesson set
Where a Course contains only one Lesson set (for example, if Lesson sets have been enabled for future use) then the Course deadline will apply to all the Lessons in that set. Once the Lessons are complete, the deadline will no longer be needed.
Reminder notifications for Courses with multiple Lesson sets
Where a Course contains multiple Lesson sets, the deadline for each subsequent set will be based on the exact date that the User completed the first set, and the 'set rules' that determine when the second set must be completed. It makes no difference if a Fixed or Relative date is selected as the initial Course deadline.
Let's take an example of a Course with two Lesson sets. The second set must be completed 1 year after the first set is completed.
The Course has a deadline (either a relative date or a fixed date), and a user completes the Course within the permitted time. The date they complete the first Lesson set is 25th Feb 2026. The Course moves to 'Courses I've done'.
The second set must be completed a year after set 1. So the deadline will be 25th Feb 2027.
Reminder notifications will be sent according to the schedule specified in Course deadline settings.
