In this article, we'll explain how to assign Skills directly to individual Users. When a Skill is assigned in this way, it's called a General Skill, and it will appear as such on the learner’s Skills dashboard.
While Skills are often assigned through a Skills profile - a predefined set of Skills applied to a Group of Users - there are cases where direct assignment is more appropriate. Skills profiles are ideal when multiple Users need the same set of competencies. However, direct assignment offers flexibility for individual needs.
For example, Learning Designers might all share a standard Skills profile. However, a senior team member may require additional Skills, such as expertise in specialised authoring tools, that do not apply to the entire team. In such cases, assigning those Skills directly ensures the individual’s capabilities are accurately reflected without affecting the broader group.
