Introduction
Sapling delivers personalized messages to your team members at scale through Outbox and the use of tokens. There are several types of messages we might deliver to you and your users. Learn more about those messages, along with examples, from the list below.
All deliverability occurs in your organization's default timezone (set under Administration Tools > Platform Settings > General); Outbox Templates let you override that default timezone to specify an alternative timezone for each specific template.

Outbox Templates
With Outbox, you can define an unlimited number of email templates grouped by lifecycle event. These templates can be tagged to only apply to particular Group Filters (for example, only applicable to contractors in Engineering at your HQ who are in a management position).
The possibilities are nearly endless for how you use these templates to communicate with your team members: go to Administration Tools > Outbox > Templates to get started.

Sapling Weekly Metrics
Under Administration Tools > Outbox > Notifications > Custom, you can create targeted notifications for Sapling weekly metrics. When enabled, all designated individuals or permission groups receive an automatic email each week highlighting several aspects of their organization's use of Sapling, rolling up data for the specified group filters on the notification.
Delivered on Mondays to all specified individuals or permission groups
Weekly Manager Digest
Under Administration Tools > Outbox > Notifications > Team insights, you'll find an option for the Weekly team summary. If enabled, any people managers with direct reports incurring relevant activities in the week ahead will receive a weekly summary of those activities.
As an admin or super admin user, you can also preview any manager's digest for the week ahead by clicking on Actions > Preview manager digest from the manager's profile.
Delivered on Fridays to all people managers with direct reports who have any of the following occurring in the week ahead:
- Start dates
- Termination dates
- Birthdays
- Anniversaries
- Starting or returning from time off
Invitation to Sapling
Under Administration Tools > Outbox > Notifications > People, you'll see the Invitation to Sapling notification. This notification cannot be disabled and is triggered when you resend an invite from the People Directory or Dashboard. This does not replace any "welcome" type onboarding templates you set up under Administration Tools > Outbox > Templates; it just serves as a simpler version of an invite if a user didn't receive or can't locate their original welcome emails that contained the option to start onboarding.

Standard Outbox Notifications (People, Tasks and documents, Team insights)
Under Administration Tools > Outbox > Notifications, you'll find several standard notifications you can enable for your organization. You can edit the content, but not the primary recipient, of any standard notifications.
Delivered as triggered to the specified primary recipients (and any CC or BCC recipients)
Custom Outbox Notifications
Under Administration Tools > Outbox > Notifications > Custom, you can add an unlimited number of custom notifications triggered by particular events. You cannot edit the content of these notifications, but you can use Group Filters to target the team members they apply to and the individuals or permission groups that should receive these notifications.

Password Reset
If your organization allows email/password authentication, users can go through a Forgotten Password? process from the login page to reset their password.
Delivered as requested to the email address provided if an existing account exists
Task Comments
To facilitate easy discussion on workflow tasks assigned to team members, users can comment and @mention others on tasks. These comments will send notifications to the @mentioned user but does not grant them access to the task automatically. Learn more about task comments.

Approval Chain Request Actions
If your organization is using Sapling's Track & Approve add-on, you can configure approval chains for any team member profile or job details table.
These approval chains allow you to notify certain users when changes are requested and apply controls for allowing those changes to proceed (such as an address change or promotion recommendation).
Delivered when a change is requested to the user(s) who are next in line to approve the change
Time Off Request Actions
If your organization is using Sapling's Time Off add-on, you can set up various time off policies with individual approval chains for any time off requests.
Delivered when time off is requested, canceled, updated, or is overdue to the user(s) who are next in line to approve the change
Time Off Approved or Denied
If your organization is using Sapling's Time Off add-on, you can set up various time off policies with individual approval chains for any time off requests.
Delivered when a time off request is approved or denied to the user who requested time off
