Learn LMS is built around assignments between key elements - for example, Users are added to Groups, Courses are assigned to Groups, and Courses are added to Catalogues. In this video, we’ll walk through the basics of assigning learning to your people.

How mandatory learning is assigned
Any Course assigned directly to a Group becomes mandatory for Group members
- Mandatory learning is usually assigned through Groups (but can also be assigned to individual Users)
- Courses assigned to a group become mandatory for all members
- Users immediately see assigned courses in their learning dashboard
- Groups help assign learning efficiently at scale
How optional learning is assigned
Optional learning is delivered through Catalogues, which act like a “brochure” of available courses that users can browse and choose from.
To make the Catalogue available to users, it must also be assigned to a Group. Once assigned, all group members can browse the Catalogue and choose optional learning.
