Skill creation and management are fundamental in being able to get going as a skills-led organisation. In this article, we will introduce the different ways you can create a skill framework in Learn.
Top tip: If you don't have an existing framework or list of skills, try using the AI generator first, then use the manual upload to plug any gaps or add Skills you identify later.
Generate skills using Ai (in Beta)
Creating a skills framework from scratch can take months. Generate Skills using AI, and you can get going in seconds. Follow the steps below to see how:
- Select Skills from the top navigation
- Select Add skills with Ai:
- Select one of the existing sector or select 'other' and add you own sector:
- Add additional information in the 'description' section. This is optional, and can be anything, however the more information given the better Ai will be at suggesting Skills. Note: there is a 300 character limit to this section:
- Select Continue to start generating skills. This can take up to 30 seconds. You will then get a suggest list of skills based off your input information. Note: you can go back and try different versions of information for the prompt:
- Unselect any skills you don't want to import:
- Once happy scroll to the bottom and click Add to skills library
- You will get a confirmation that your skills have been created
Important: Once a list of generated skills is imported, you cannot repeat the process at this time. To generate a new list, all existing skills must first be deleted.
Import your own skills
If you already have an existing list of skills and a framework or want to start small, you won't want to start from scratch. If thats the case, you can import a list of skills quickly via a CSV.
A few things to know about importing your own skills:
- You can import as many skills as you like and can do this action more than once.
- You can still use the AI skills generator if you manually upload skills as well
- If you create any skills you no longer need at a later date you can delete them easily by selecting 'Delete' next to that skill
Follow the steps below to import your own skills:
- Browse to Learn Admin
- Select Skills from the top navigation
- Select Import:
- Select Upload file and select your CSV of skills:
- You will see your uploaded file in the uploader, and you can remove and select another if you wish:
- Select Import skills and you will get a confirmation message. Your skills are now ready.
Important: Currently, skills are not available in translated formats and must be entered in UK English. Support for all languages available in Learn is on our roadmap for future updates.
Utilising skills
There are multiple ways you will be able to leverage skills. Here are a couple of examples:
Content tagging
You can use your skills to tag lessons and associate learning content to skills development. There will be two methods available:
- Manually tag lessons with skills; existing content and when creating
- Bulk assign skills with AI (Coming soon)
Learn: Tag content with skills (Beta) – Kallidus
Map skills to learners (Coming soon)
You will be able to map skills to people in your organisation. This will then create those users a skills profile which will show them which skills they need to perform in their role and find relevant tagged content to develop those skills.
More detailed information on this will be coming shortly.
What AI technology is being used?
Our feature uses Azure OpenAi technology, with strict safeguards in place to protect your data privacy. Only the specific information you enter in the prompt fields—such as Sector and Description—is processed. No Personally Identifiable Information (PII) is shared with Azure OpenAI.
Importantly, the model does not retain, learn from, or make any information available to other users. Your data is exclusively used for generating responses within your own environment and is not stored or shared externally.
