Live event recap: Introducing Pathways
Thanks to everyone who joined the live event - it was one of our most popular yet! It's great to see so much excitement around our new feature.
If you missed it, you can watch it back in the Academy here. Here’s a quick summary of what was covered.
What Are Pathways?
Pathways are one‑time, curated learning journeys made up of reusable milestones.
They help structure longer-term development such as:
- Onboarding
- New role transitions
- Leadership development
- Career pathways
- Skills‑based learning (e.g., AI skills, human skills)
They do not replace compliance or recurring training — those remain managed at the course level.
How do Pathways work?
- Milestones are reusable modules containing courses
- Milestones must be completed in order, but courses within a milestone can be linear or flexible
- Learners must click Start Pathway to begin
- Previously completed courses/milestones are automatically recognised
- Adding new items later does not force learners back into completed milestones
Learner and Admin demo
I walked through how Pathways appear to learners, before during and after completion and as mandatory and optional learning. Then we looked at the steps to create Pathways, tag skills and assign them to groups and catalogues.
Keys to Success
Shaun’s top tips:
- Start with the outcome and build backwards
- Treat milestones as modular skill builders
- Keep journeys engaging and manageable (avoid huge single Pathways)
- Use Pathways to promote skill visibility, not compliance
- Reuse milestones across multiple programmes
- Set clear expectations: Pathways are one-time journeys
Coming Soon
Phill shared some roadmap updates and requests that are being investigated:
- Pathway-level deadlines
- Reporting for Pathways & milestones (next quarter)
- Admin results page to edit/add completions
- Exploring advanced milestone prerequisites
Q&A
Q. Will learners need to redo courses they have already completed
A. No. Previous completions are automatically recognised.
Q. Can Pathways be assigned to individual users
A. Not yet. This is planned for a future update.
Q. Do course deadlines still work inside a Pathway
A. Yes. Deadlines still function, but must be set at the course level.
Q. Can delays or timed gaps be added between milestones
A. No, not currently.
Q. What happens if someone cannot attend an ILT event inside a milestone
A. They cannot complete the milestone or move on, so ILT timing should be planned carefully.
Q. Will completing a lesson within a Pathway also complete the related accreditation
A. Yes, as long as the accreditation is set up in the usual way.
Q. Can managers see Pathway progress for their team
A. Yes, but with limited detail.
