So far in this course, you’ve deployed Courses and Lessons that already existed, and you’ve seen how to import PDF’s and eLearning to create Lessons of the corresponding type.
In this module, we’ll look at how to create from scratch, Courses and the Lesson types we’ve not yet seen. So that’s URL Lessons, Instructor-Led Lessons, Document Upload Lessons and Competency Checks.
Tutorials in this module:
- Create a URL Lesson (6m 41s)
- Create a Course (8m 51s)
- Create Instructor-led Lessons, and Document Upload Lessons (9m 20s)
- Create a Competency check (8m 37s)
Create a URL Lesson
A URL Lesson is really just a signpost, pointing learners to interesting and engaging content. And that could be a web address like YouTube, a TEDtalk or perhaps your intranet. Anything.
Create a Course
Courses have an essential function in Learn - they’re the mechanism through which Lessons – the actual learning - is deployed to people. Think of a course as a wrapper for those lessons. Lessons are added to a course and in turn, the course is deployed to People.
Create Instructor-led Lessons and Document Upload Lessons
Two more Lesson types for you! Document Upload Lessons are used for learners to provide evidence of training achieved outside of Learn, perhaps First Aid training or Health and safety. And instructor-led Lessons are used wherever training is delivered by an instructor at a set place and time – whether that’s online instructor-led, or face to face.
Create a Competency Check
Competency checks are used where learners must demonstrate their competence to carry out a task. And that task might be for example, confidently handling a customer query, delivering training or carrying out a medical procedure. Anything. And this makes Competency checks a vital part of learning. Learners may have attended instructor led training and watched the eLearning, but can they demonstrate they sufficiently understand the subject?
